Audiological Evaluations

An audiological evaluaton is the hearing assessment or test.  It consists of air and bone pure tone testing and speech audiometry.  This testing allows us to see how much you are able to hear at each of the frequencies (pitches) that are important for understanding speech.  The testing is completed by air-conduction (under headphones) and by bone conduction.  This information is used to diagnose the presence or absence of hearing loss.  If a hearing loss is present, it determines the type of hearing loss.  Some types of hearing loss are permanent, others may be medically or surgically treatable.  The speech testing includes speech recognition threshold (SRT) testing and word recognition testing.  The speech recognition thresholds gives us the amount of hearing loss for speech and the word recognition testing assesses your ability to understand speech.
